Savanna and Peter's wedding. Where do I even begin? Let's start with the fact that this amazing girl planned her whole wedding in two and a half months! Planning around Peter's military leave, and finding available vendors in that limited time is no small feat! Everyone involved in the preparation and set up of their special day did an incredible job. From the delicious food, gorgeous florals, and beautiful handmade signs throughout the space, to the loving family and friends helping to bring everything together, it was a beautiful wedding full of wonderful memories for everyone involved.
The whole event took place at the lovely Goei Center in Grand Rapids, MI, which has a gorgeous industrial chic look with beautiful white washed brick, dark hardwood floors, and endless windows around the whole facility letting in all that ever-adored natural light! Bryan and I took a few minutes to explore since we arrived early, planning around potential traffic as we had a long drive in that morning. The space was so large, it gave us all kinds of wonderful options for portraits throughout the day.
When the ladies arrived we launched right away into details and getting ready candids. Savanna was able to bring a 100 year old mirror that has been passed down in her family, and had even survived a house fire! The vintage mirror was a beautiful complement to her lace and illusion fit and flare dress as she was getting ready. Then, her mom surprised her with another beautiful family heirloom, she had attached her grandmother's cross charm to her bouquet. You could feel the emotion in the room as her mother revealed this touching element to her day!
The guys brought dapper dress to a new level in their suits and army dress blues. They had actually gotten ready off site, but they were more than ready to play along when I asked them to reenact shining Peter's buttons and adjusting their bowties. The whole bridal party was so great, very helpful and willing to work through my ideas and suggestions, which helped us get a really cool group shot!
Savanna and Peter's faith set the tone for their beautiful ceremony with their pastor as the officiant urging the surrounding family and friends to continue their beautiful efforts of supporting the young couple as they begin their new marriage, and stating just how proud he is of the two of them for their relationship with each other and God, and the successful foundation they have built for their marriage. They symbolized their unity by together assembling a beautiful ornate unity cross, and sealed their new marriage with a kiss.
In an effort to 'get the shot' throughout the couple's private portraits I found myself rolling around on the ground, falling through crates I was trying to stand on, and climbing on cars (don't worry, it was mine). I was thrilled that they were up for trying whatever I asked, including standing in the dirt and exploring the (slightly sketchy looking) back of the building for bridal party shots which had gorgeous texture and came out amazingly!
The thing I loved most about working with Savanna and Peter was just how joyous and happy the two are to be together. All day long Savanna had a beautiful ear to ear smile, especially each time she looked at Peter. The whole day was filled with smiles and laughter! Their love is obviously strong and their relationship based on respect. One of my favorite moments of the day was seeing the two of them together during their first dance, with eyes only for each other and enjoying every minute of being in each other's arms.
Everyone who knows me well knows that bistro lights are literally one of my favorite decor items of all time, and they set the stage for a gorgeous and incredibly fun reception! The dance floor was full throughout the evening with laser lights flashing, a conga line that filled the dance space, and guests jamming out to Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'." To close out the night we headed outside with the bridal party to catch a mini sparkler exit, and they really rolled with our suggestions to try some more artistic actions for the shots. It was a great way to end the night celebrating with awesome people!
There is so much more I could say about this beautiful wedding and couple, and I am really looking forward to putting together an epic custom wedding album for them, but I will pipe down for now and let their images speak for themselves!
